Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust

Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist in Eating Disorders

The closing date is 02 April 2026

Job summary

This is a new post which has been created as part of a successful bid to expand community eating disorders for children and young people.

The post holder will provide senior clinical leadership and psychiatric expertise within a specialist multidisciplinary team delivering evidence-based care for young people with eating disorders. The service combines intensive day hospital treatment and home-based interventions, offering a flexible and family-centred approach to prevent or shorten inpatient admissions and support sustainable recovery. In addition, as it is a new service, the post holder will have the opportunity to provide medical leadership in its development.

Main duties of the job

Specific responsibilities may include:o Provide specialist psychiatric assessment and management for young people with eating disorders and co-occurring mental health conditions.o Lead on formulation, care planning, and review within a multidisciplinary team including psychologists, nurses, dietitians, family therapists, occupational therapists, and social workers.o Offer psychiatric input for both Day Hospital (maximum 6 patients) and the Intensive Support at Home Team (up to 5 patients) components of the service. While this is a new service, it is anticipated that there will be one new patient for each service weekly, although the day patients will likely already open to the home support team. Therefore, it is expected that the post holder will see one new patient per week for psychiatric assessment and 10 follow up reviews per week.o Oversee pharmacological treatments, physical health monitoring, and mental state management.o Participate in family-based interventions, working collaboratively with carers to promote recovery and resilience.o Support early identification of risk and contribute to crisis management plans.o Liaise effectively with community CAMHS, paediatric, education, and social care services to ensure continuity of care.o Contribute to admission avoidance and step-down care from inpatient units.
