Dietetic Assistant Practitioner

Job summary

We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic, and compassionate Dietetic Assistant Practitioner to embrace this exciting opportunity to work as part of the Aspen Eating Disorder service in Warwick delivering inpatient and outpatient services to patients with eating disorders.

You will be working as part of a small friendly dietetic team and helping us to provide consistent high quality dietetic care to our patients.

Main duties of the job

Undertake dietetic related tasks with individuals or groups ensuring that patients receive the correct therapeutic diet to meet their nutritional needs

Supporting dietitians with menu planning for specialist diets

Support ward staff in implementing changes and development to the food services on the unit

Work with the catering department to ensure that changes to prescribed diet plans are delivered to patients consistently without delay

Provide information, practical advice, and training within scope of own competency to patients and other healthcare staff involved in patient's care

Communicate effectively with patients. This involves giving advice to patients with emotional, physical and psychological difficulties where acceptance can be challenging, and patients can become distressed

Support dietitians with managing the stock of enteral feeds and oral nutritional supplements

To contribute to the delivery of Eating Disorders treatment within agreed frameworks and pathways. To plan, deliver and evaluate interventions under the supervision of registered practitioners. Duties will primarily support the Nutrition and Dietetic service, but will also involve working closely with other member of the therapeutic team.Main responsibilitiesTo independently carry out assigned duties involving direct care, observation and support of service users under the guidance and supervision of registered practitioners.

Working under the supervision of a qualified practitioner to modify, develop and implement programmes or interventions.To provide liaison between Dietetic and Nursing staff to ensure patients experience a high quality, efficient food service.To support ward staff in implementing changes and developments to the food services on the unit.To complete relevant assessments and care plans under the supervision of a registered practitioner.To liaise appropriately with carers/families/clients/other professionals. This may include representing others at reviews and Multi-disciplinary Team meetings to aid information sharing but not include clinical decision making.Report to the registered practitioner any incidents of risk to the service user or risk to others as a result of the behaviour or actions of the service user.To carry out, under supervision or direction, activities which optimise service users levels of functioning and the development of meaningful activities.To undertake administration and clerical duties as required.Take active ownership of own training and development needs, to include participation in the Trusts performance management / supervision framework and work toward meeting identified goals and objectives as agreed in a personal development plan / appraisal.

  • Foundation degree in Health and Social Care (Assistant Practitioner) qualification

Knowledge and skills

  • Awareness and knowledge of Eating Disorders and treatment approaches.
  • Knowledge and experience of person centred approaches to care.
  • Awareness of current good practice in the care of people with mental health.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of being a reflective practitioner and be able to actively participate in supervision.
  • Demonstrate an awareness of boundaries within role and the ability to refer to supervising staff
  • Demonstrate an awareness of the importance of planning and evaluating clinical situations.
