Maternal mental health is a life-saving, crucial and growing area of practice bringing together some of the most passionate and skilled health professionals in the NHS. 10% of women develop a mental health problem during pregnancy or within the immediate period after the birth of their baby and untreated can have a devastating impact on the women affected and their families. In the UK, mental health in pregnant and post-natal women has previously often gone unrecognised, undiagnosed and untreated.

Main duties of the job

Coventry & Warwickshire Partnership NHS specialist perinatal mental health service work is a multidisciplinary team that is meeting the specific needs of ante and perinatal women with a high quality multi-disciplinary service and linking with the full range of health and social care professionals including GPs, health visitors and midwives as well as gynaecology, obstetrics ETC.

The service is a dynamic, exciting collaboration across three commissioning groups and three maternity hospitals and a range of community settings.

  • Current registration with Professional Body appropriate to qualifications
  • Specialist Therapy Qualification, as appropriate to the role

Knowledge and Skills

  • Specialist model specific and individualised psychological assessment, formulation and Intervention skills.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of evidence-based psychological therapies
  • Skilled and competent in evidence-based psychological therapies
  • The ability to analyse complex data and make expert judgements based on Information from a variety of sources.
  • The ability to plan, organise and deliver work, exercising clinical judgement, and managing time effectively.

  • Experience in psychological therapy in the field of adult mental health settings, including assessment, formulation and interventions, drawing on a evidence based psychological models and knowledge, and including work with service users with mild, moderate, severe and enduring mental health problems, including anxiety, depression and/or personality disorder
  • Experience of model-specific psychological assessment of clients and collaborative work with other professional groups, e.g. medical, nursing, social work.
