Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of Clinical Specialist Dietitian in Learning Disability and Autism services (LDA). You will be responsible for delivering safe, high-quality evidence-based dietetic assessment and treatment to inpatients across the Brooklands Hospital site. The post holder will work with the MDT and the facilities team to ensure the site provides nutritionally appropriate care and treatment. The post holder will provide strategic input in matters relating to nutrition.

You must be HCPC registered with significant job experience

Main duties of the job

The Clinical Specialist Dietitian will be part of a specialist multidisciplinary team and work as an autonomous, independent clinician; responsible for delivering safe, high-quality evidence-based dietetic assessment and treatment to inpatients across the Brooklands Hospital site. The post holder will work with the MDT and the facilities team to ensure the site provides nutritionally appropriate care and treatment. The post holder will provide strategic input in matters relating to nutrition.

The post holder must be willing to travel across Coventry and Warwickshire for meetings, supervision and CPD opportunities.

Job description

Job responsibilities

  • Manage a clinical caseload providing a comprehensive, effective, and safe dietetic service, using highly specialist knowledge and skills.
  • Be responsible for the planning, development and direct delivery of dietetic care offered to people admitted to Brooklands Hospital.
  • Receive and promptly respond to referrals.

Assess patient nutritional risk and interpret relevant blood results, where appropriate.

  • Undertake development of nutritional resources to educate and treat people referred to the service.
  • Be professionally and legally accountable for all aspects of own work, including caseload management and direct clinical care and to work within professional and Trust guidelines and scope of practice.

Obtain and record consent from clients at each contact in accordance with Trust Policy.

Document all patient and professional contact in line with legal frameworks

Carry out audits on nutritional intervention and progress using outcome measures.

Work with the facilities department to ensure adequate access to nutritionally appropriate diets in line with patient clinical need.

  • In collaboration with colleagues plan and deliver training and development to meet needs identified and act as a resource for specialist information where required.
  • Participate in service development, audit, pathway development and ongoing training needs of the clinical teams.
  • Network and develop working relationships with relevant staff, liaising closely with professional colleagues to ensure the delivery of excellent quality services.
  • Provide clinical supervision for dietitians and students as required.
  • Work with other dietitians within the Trust and externally to raise the profile of the dietetic profession and promote the dietetics workforce.
