Assistant Psychologist - Band 4 (1.0 WTE).

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Assistant Psychologist to work within our Dementia Services. The post holders will support with the delivery of post diagnostic interventions, including groups such as Cognitive Stimulation Therapy, Next Steps, Coping with Caring and Living well With Dementia. They will also provide some individual post diagnostic interventions too. We are looking for Psychology Graduates with a passion for working with younger and older adults with dementia, and some previous experience within this field.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will support with the delivery of group and individual post diagnostic interventions. They will carry out pre-group assessments, post group assessments and evaluate group outcomes. They will work as a valued member of the MDT, working alongside colleagues from Community Mental Health Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Social Work, Psychiatry and Psychology. The post holder will have access to supervision from a Qualified Clinical Psychologist and line management from a senior colleague. They will be offered training and CPD opportunities within the mental health trust.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

To support with the delivery of post diagnostic groups.

To carry out pre-group assessments.

To carry out post-group assessments.

To support with audit and group evaluation.

To carry out individual interventions, under the supervision of a qualified Psychologist.

To work co-operatively with multidisciplinary colleagues and collaboratively with experts by experience to achieve service outcomes and targets.

  • British Psychological Society accredited or eligible Upper Second Class Honours degree (2:1) in Psychology including degree level research modules and research project.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential

  • Well developed skills in the ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, relating to complex, highly technical and/or clinically sensitive information to clients and other professional colleagues both within and outside the NHS
  • Able to develop good relationships with clients, colleagues and staff from criminal justice agencies.
  • Ability to learn to offer psycho-education to suitable clients in a manner consistent with the service
  • Participate and undertake audit evaluation and research. Completed clinical audits within a service
  • Ability to function in a largely autonomous fashion, subject to suitable supervision

  • Extended experience of working with people within learning disability and/ or mental health services
  • Working and liaising with other professional groups
