Senior Primary Care Mental Health Practitioner (ARRS) - Band 6

This is an exciting opportunity to build on the existing mental health practitioner offer across the primary care networks and to support GPs in the 'North of Coventry'PCN. This compromises of 4 GP surgeries with a population of approx. 33,000 people.

We welcome and encourage applications from the following professional backgrounds: Social Worker, Occupational Therapists (OT), Registered Mental Nurses who have significant experience of working in mental health services and have experience of providing a range of evidence-based interventions to people with a variety of mental health problems and serious mental illness.

This is an ideal post for those professionals who are proactive, dynamic, and passionate about innovation and providing a high-quality holistic approach to the care of people who have been identified as in need of mental health support in a primary care setting.

This is an exciting opportunity that recognises that placing specialist mental health staff in GP practices and promoting early assessment and treatment in a recovery focused way will help people with mental health problems achieve the best possible outcomes.

Main duties of the job

It will include reviewing patients presenting with mental health issues, consider a range of options regarding treatment interventions providing them with highly specialised advice concerning care when appropriate and liaising with GPs and MH teams.

To offer brief interventions as needed to people who have mental health needs, but that do not need a referral into Secondary Care MH services. e.g., problem solving, decision making, building resilience, building on personal strengths, risk de-escalation, medication advice, single session assessment and prescribing if a registered NMP. This will include facilitating short term case management offering professional advice, joint support and information. To work closely with social prescribers and other professionals within the PCNs multi-disciplinary teams, to support the patient to access the right services in the right place and at the right time.

Qualifications

Essential

  • A good standard of education including minimum GCSE Grade C and above in English and Maths (or equivalent)
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent experience
  • Registered professional qualification (RMN/Social worker/Occupational Therapist)
  • Evidence of an active interest in further professional development
  • Teaching qualification ENB 998 (or equivalent)?
  • Attendance in Significant courses relevant to Mental health for example in respect of therapeutic interventions, community MH specialist training?

Knowledge and skills

Essential

  • Relevant experience working with individuals or professional groups
  • Knowledge and experience in Mental health community services including, needs and interventions required for routine referrals and to have a theoretical knowledge of this.
  • Highly developed clinical skills with an in-depth knowledge of mental health assessment and current practice
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding of patients' rights within the Care Act / Mental health act and within confidentiality legislation in order to comply with the requirements of relevant legislation and local information governance policies and codes of practice and the Section 75 agreement
  • Ability to work across services and organisations
  • High level of specialist knowledge for assessment and review of patients
  • Ability to lone work and manage clinical caseload and prioritise as required
  • To be able to maintain boundaries within working role
  • Risk management
  • Good understanding of what is available in the locality for people who are displaying emotional distress within primary care
