Assistant Psychologist (Aspiring Clinical Psychologist Scheme)

Under an NHS England National Scheme (Paid Clinical Work Experience Opportunities for Disadvantaged Aspiring Clinical Psychologists) CWPT are proud to announce an exciting opportunity to employ 5 Assistant Psychologists. We recognise that certain groups are underrepresented in the clinical psychology workforce. Therefore, we are focusing our scheme on the population of the global majority in this instance and welcome applications from individuals with Black and South Asian heritages who would like to pursue a career in clinical psychology. We anticipate that we will focus on other protected characteristics in the future.

Main duties of the job

Work experience may be structured across two services to maximise the graduate's experience. CWPT has a wide range of services across Adult, Older Adult, Child and Adolescent and Learning Disabilities services. Alongside hosting the regional veterans' services and forensic services for people with learning disabilities.

It would include:

Direct work with services users (individual and groups)

Observing the work of a range of professions to gain understanding of different roles and multidisciplinary team working.

Shadowing psychological professions leaders

Service-related projects including co-production, audit, and research.

There are a mixture of full-time and part-time posts to provide flexibility and ensure that suitable candidates may be able to fully utilise the opportunity. Therefore, creating flexible working patterns where this is supportive.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Individuals with Black and/or South Asian heritage
  • 2:1 degree or above in psychology (or equivalent) recognised by the British Psychological Society (BPS) which enables eligibility for Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership.
  • No prior paid work experience in a psychology role such as a paid assistant psychologist, research assistant or a psychological practitioner post.
  • Living in Coventry or Warwickshire
  • Eligible to work in the UK
