Job summary

The Intensive Support Team is a dedicated and innovative team supporting the avoidance of inappropriate admissions to specialist hospitals and facilitating discharge for individuals with Learning Disabilities.

The IST benefits from an MDT which comprises of a range of skilled professionals and assistants. We are looking for a highly motivated and skilled individual with proven abilities to work with individuals with Learning Disabilities who may also be Autistic, present withbehaviour that may challenge, mental illness and communication needs.

Main duties of the job

The post involves working flexibly and intensively with these individuals, their carers and with MDT colleagues. This includes provision of training, resources and consultation, plus advocating on behalf of individuals in regards to their communication needs . You will need to be responsive, adaptable, approachable and sensitive, often supporting individuals and carers in complex and distressing situations . Communication and collaboration with multiple agencies across the system is a key part of the role . Leadership elements of the post include direction and supervision of assistants and being a pro-active member of the clinical leadership of the service, including supporting development alongside other senior Professionals.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Degree or equivalent in Speech and Language Therapy.
  • Further training and experience in specialist area to Masters level or equivalent
  • Significant post graduate training in relevant to the role
  • Current Registration with Health Professions Council without restriction
