Job summary

We have a vacancy for an Occupational Therapist on one of our female adult working age Wards, within acute inpatient mental health based at the Caludon Centre, in Coventry.

The ward provides a Multidisciplinary trauma informed assessment and treatment service to those experiencing an acute psychiatric crisis. The role of the Occupational Therapist is to contribute to the occupational assessment and intervention of individuals to support recovery and effective discharge. The post holder also has a significant role in supporting the maintenance of the therapeutic environment.

This would suit a newly qualified OT looking for their first post, or someone looking to develop their experience before progressing into a more senior role.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:

  • Facilitate and participate in the development, delivery and evaluation of effective occupational therapy service delivery.
  • Contribute to the maintenance and development of the therapeutic environment within the acute inpatient setting.
  • Contribute to the holistic assessment of physical and mental well-being needs.
  • Deliver relevant evidence based interventions.
  • Engage with carers and significant others in response to identified needs.
  • Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of ward activity interventions, and supervise the Ward Activity Co-ordinator.

1) Goal setting and interventions to improve engagement in self care,productivity (i.e. self care) & leisure (e.g. exercise, hobbies) activities for treatment of acute mental health needs. Including:

  • Building self efficacy to engage
  • Exploring options for activity
  • Rapport building & graded engagement
  • Assessment of functioning and needs
  • Optimising required self-care / independent living skills
  • Education regarding management of symptoms and risk, within activity
  • (Re) Establishing productive / valued routines
  • Developing / maintaining organisation and problem solving within activity
  • Developing / maintaining communication & interaction skills within activity
  • Use of aids, adaptations and environmental modification to support engagement in activity
  • Supporting transitions into new physical and social environments
  • Consultation, liaison and advice
  • Supporting engagement in leisure & exercise
  • Vocational guidance, signposting and advice as applicable
  • Identifying use of occupation for risk, symptom management and relapse prevention.
  • Liaise with care coordinator & wider MDT team to integrate occupational intervention plan with care plan.
  • Complete OT outcome measures.
