Job summary
We are looking for a compassionate, motivated, organised and flexible individual who is keen to promote ennoblement, to take up our Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA) vacancy.
The post covers our Male and Female Wards at The Caludon Center, supporting the Occupational Therapists with their interventions. This includes supporting the provision of onward reasonable adjustments to improve patient experience on the wards, as well as supporting unit based and home / community transition work in readiness for hospital discharge.
A driving licence and access to a vehicle for work is required.
The successful candidate will have a genuine interest in people and functional mental health, they will have lots of initiative, good communication and organisational skills, be able to work independently under direction, and collaboratively with the ward team and our patients.
Our acute wards can be rewarding and challenging. Previous experience of working with people who have mental ill health is required.
Main duties of the job
To assist in the provision of a high standard of occupational treatment for clients, following assessment by an Occupational Therapist, on the ward and the community.
To hold responsibility for own designated caseload, under the guidance and supervision of a Occupational Therapist, and to assist with evaluation of effectiveness of occupational therapy on the wards of designated pathway.
To support the development, delivery and maintenance of therapeutic interventions, adaptive equipment and resources.
To participate in education and training of students and other healthcare professionals, as is appropriate.

The successful candidate will work under the direction of the qualified occupational therapists. The OTA will also be responsible for maintaining our adaptive equipment stock at The Caludon Centre.
The successful candidate will be welcomed by our supportive team, and have opportunity for training, learning and regular supervision. Occupational Therapy career pathways are available once the necessary experience, skills, values, aptitude and ability to gain the required access qualifications, can be demonstrated.
The working pattern is over 5 daysMonday to Friday, with a rotered pattern of shifts of 9-5 and 12-8.

Undertake appropriate interventions in line with individuals care plans or group protocols, e.g. home visit, washing and dressing practice, shop & cook, under the supervision of the OT
Where appropriate to assist with education and training of carers and support staff in aspects of the individuals intervention as directed by the OT.
To assess individual patients understanding of proposed interventions in order to gain valid consent.
To monitor and record treatment outcomes, and liaise with the OT regarding effectiveness, evaluation and progression of intervention.
To work within , Trust and national clinical guidelines and to monitor own and other standards of practice, as appropriate.
To participate in multi-disciplinary working, following collaborative care plan interventions.
To represent the OT service at MDT meetings and Case Conferences, as appropriate. This will include discussion of patient care, patient progress and liaising with the OTs, wards ward and community staff regarding discharge planning.
To effectively monitor and maintain stocks of OT resources, and support maintenance of other shared AHP and Activity related physical spaces and equipment.
Liaise with senior staff on any issues relating to the OT service and to help initiate and develop service developments and care.
