JOB OVERVIEW
We invite applications for an enthusiastic and compassionate new team of mental health and wellbeing practitioners to work within our community mental health teams across Coventry and Warwickshire.
This is an exciting, brand-new role created by Health Education England and NHS England and Improvement to support the transformation of adult community mental health services. Your training will be fully funded by the NHS, and you will be eligible for a full-time qualified position if you pass the course. These posts are suitable for both graduates (e.g., psychology) and non-graduates, who have the right mental health experience and personal qualities. This role will contribute to ensuring adults with severe mental health problems have greater access to psychologically informed interventions.
What Grade Will I Be?
As a trainee mental health and wellbeing practitioner, you'll be paid on theAgenda for Change(AFC) pay system commencing at Band 4 £23,949. After qualifying, you'll be paid at Band 5 £27,055 - £32,934).
Main duties of the job
You will be involved in the delivery of psychological interventions within a community mental health setting.
The role involves seeingadultpatients, in person or via video link, who have been referred by GPs and other local services and providing psychological support for them in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Thiswillincludeproviding the following psychological interventions:
- behavioural activation and graded exposure using the'GOALS'programme
- problem-solving
- improvingsleep
- recognisingand managing emotions
- confidencebuilding
- supportwithmanagingmedicines management
- Providing care management support, such as connecting service users with other agencies.
You'll work as part of a wider multi-disciplinary team to promote good mental health and recovery from severe mental health problems.

The training:
Youll undertake a one-year training programme,youllspendonedaya weekstudyingat Worcester university and the remainder of the time(three to four days)working inor undertaking specific training tasks in community mental healthservices. Youwillhaveregular meetingswith your supervisor to support you to deliver high quality, evidence-basedinterventions.
You will need:
- excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to buildtrusting and productiverelationships with a range of people
- to be abletowork well within a multidisciplinary team
- a good understanding of mental health issues
- strong written and verbal communication skills, tailored to a variety of audiences
- the ability towork independently and use initiative to think quickly on the spot in often challenging situations
- creativity to solve problems and tackle obstacles
- effective time management for managing competing demandsin a busy and sometimes pressured work environment
- To be able to travel independently to a variety of locations across Coventry and Warwickshire for your clinical work and to Worcester university for your training course.
Entry requirements
- PG Cert Level 7 - Minimum 2:2 degree in a relevant field
- Grad Cert Level 6 - Level 5 qualification or equivalent
Youll need to be able to demonstrate a willingness to workin a hopeful and productive waywithadults with severe mental health problems.
The trainee mental health wellbeing practitioner posts are training positions. Progression into a permanent contract is subject to passing the course
You will need to demonstrate your ability to study at degree level or above.You can train for a postgraduate or graduate certificate, depending on whether or not you already have a degree qualification.
Successful candidates will be expected to travel to Worcester University to complete their training.
