We are now seeking an Extended Scope Physiotherapist (ESP) to join our team and lead the management of acute soft-tissue injuries. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to service redesign, improve patient outcomes, reduce unnecessary delays, and ensure care is delivered right-first-time. You will play a pivotal role in shaping pathways, streamlining access, and supporting high-quality, integrated MSK care across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking a skilled Extended Scope Physiotherapist (ESP) to lead our soft-tissue injury pathway in South Durham and Darlington. In this role, you will assess, diagnose, and manage acute soft-tissue injuries, request and interpret imaging (e.g., MRI), and make timely referrals for urgent orthopaedic opinion when needed.
You will work autonomously and as part of a multidisciplinary team to ensure patients receive the right care first time, reducing unnecessary consultant appointments and improving patient flow. You will also contribute to clinical governance, pathway development, and consistent high-quality care across sites.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
