Diabetes Specialist Nurse

Job summary

We are currently seeking a dynamic and enthusiastic registered nurse to join our diabetes specialist nursing team at University Hospital of North Durham (UHND). The successful applicant will work across UHND and associated sites, such as Chester-le-Street and Shotley Bridge community hospitals. The team routinely cover services between 9-5pm, 5-days a week however there is flexibility with start times and the potential for weekend working in the future. The role involves providing high quality, specialist nursing care to adult patients living with diabetes. The successful applicant will be required to hold a first level nursing registration with the NMC and role specific training can be provided for the right candidate.

Main duties of the job

As a diabetes specialist nurse you will provide evidence-based holistic care to a population of patients living with diabetes. The role provides varied day-to-day experiences covering both inpatient care and outpatient clinics. The complexities of diabetes care requires higher-level thinking and a system wide nursing approach to enable the best possible outcome for our patients therefore, you will work along side multiple specialities such as palliative care, obstetrics and paediatric diabetes teams to name a few. The right candidate will be committed to continuous professional development whilst helping drive the service forward keeping patients at the heart of what we do.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
