Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Medical Secretary, with strong administrative skills to provide essential administration within the Radiology Department.

We are currently recruiting for a full-time (37.5hrs) Medical Secretary to work in Radiology at University Hospital of North Durham.

The successful candidate will need to have administration/secretarial experience to ensure consistent outstanding care and exemplary service to our patients and consultant radiologists.

The successful candidate must also have a flexible approach, be able to work as part of a team, and have highly developed interpersonal written and verbal communication skills, as well as being able to prioritise a busy workload to meet all deadlines.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide comprehensive administration and secretarial support to the Radiology Consultants, and other professions, working alongside a team across the Trust with minimal supervision.

We are looking for candidates with excellent interpersonal skills, dedication and the confidence to deal with a wide range of matters with diplomacy.

Experience in working with people and the ability to adapt to change while managing and prioritising a heavy workload, in a fast developing environment is essential for this role.

Job description

Job responsibilities

- Provide confidential secretarial/administration support to Consultants

- Receiving and responding to internal and external correspondence, taking appropriate and timely action as required, in accordance with departmental standards

- Handling queries, liaising with other departments and Colleagues when necessary

- Managing urgent reports for inpatients, outpatients and GPs as per designated protocol.

- Processing PET scan referrals and reports

- Managing and maintaining central email inboxes appropriately and responding to queries in a timely manner.

- Sending and receiving images via Radiology IT systems

- Providing general admin support to the Radiology department as a whole, including the Admin Team Lead and Radiology General Manager where necessary
