Manual Handling Assistant Practitioner

Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an existing band 4 or band 2/3 health professional wanting to join the Manual Handling Advisory Service (MHAS) in a Manual Handling Practitioner capacity (band 4). The MHAS team provides a comprehensive service for the organisation including a significant training program for all clinical staff from mandatory training through to a more specialised facilitator training.

The teams main focus is to eliminate avoidable manual handling incidents through teaching, extensive audit programmes and advise clinical areas and individuals following manual handling incidents.

In addition to this the team provides professional advice to clinical areas and individuals with the aim to prevent or reduce the impact of MSK injuries to staff and patients. The team also advices on the purchase of manual handling equipment and supports departments with complex risk assessments.

Main duties of the job

The team plays a significant role in patient safety and is involved in proactively managing risk in relation to manual handling and reducing patient and staff injuries. The post holder will be responsible for the delivery of manual handling training across the organisation and will assist with the delivery of strategies to ensure departments are completing appropriate and safe moving and handling. As part of a small team respond to department queries relating to moving and handling.
