Job summary
We are in the exciting position of offering a substantive
General Paediatric Consultant posts based at the University Hospital of North
Durham at 10PA (full time, equivalent to 40 hour per week).
This is a traditional acute consultant posts
with regular oncalls (no middle-grade duties). We are seeking to appoint an
experienced colleague with a speciality interest in one of our paediatric
sub-specialities.
Main duties of the job
The post will have the following objectives:
1) Full contribution to the Paediatrician of the Week and
Paediatrician of the Day duties (POW and POD) rota to support paediatric
in-patient unit, paediatric assessment unit, special care baby unit and on-call
cover.
2) To deliver care to patients with common paediatric
illnesses by participating in hot week which is currently 1 in 10. To manage
paediatric and neonatal emergencies and provide leadership in stabilisation and
transfer of sick children in hours and out of hours by participating in
non-resident on-call rota (1 in 10).
3) To manage babies in special care baby unit (30 weeks and
above) and supervising trainees in managing transitional care and post-natal
ward babies.
4) To provide outpatient clinics: General Paediatrics &
sub-speciality interest
5) To manage children presenting to the ward with acute
safeguarding concerns and to participate in elective safeguarding clinics.
To participate in Undergraduate and postgraduate teaching,
quality improvement activities and to contribute to research activities.
To be a clinical supervisor and or educational
supervisor to trainees and non-training trust registrars.
