Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity for a motivated band 5 paediatric nurse to join our Childrens
Community Nursing Team. The team provide nursing care to children and young people across County
Durham and Darlington with a range of nursing needs. The service provides community care 7 days a
week 08.00 to 20.00 and we have 2 office bases in Darlington and Chester-le Street. The successful
candidate would be allocated a base, however there would be an expetation that the post holder may
need to work from either base to meet the needs of the service.
Main duties of the job
You will be providing a high standard of nursing care to children and their families in a variety of
community settings. This will involve carrying out visits to family homes, schools, nurseries and short
break provisions to ensure the child's nursing needs are met. You will be given the autonomy to work
as a lone worker whilst on visits in the community under the direction of the Children's Community
Nursing Sisters.
Training will be provided to ensure that you have the necessary skills to deliver evidence based care
and you will be supported in your role by the Children's Community Nursing Sisters within the team.
We are looking for someone who is passionate about providing outstanding nursing care in the
community and has the communication skills to meet the diverse needs of our caseload. You must be
able to use your initiative and work flexibly when needed.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
