Job description
Job responsibilities
This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and enthusiastic
team who believe in leading from the frontline and aim to provide outstanding
care. The department is supported by an
excellent consultant and middle grade tier which provides 24 hour cover. The ED
is blessed with an excellent and supportive nursing team and our friendly
atmosphere is frequently commented upon by past junior doctors. These are new
posts which have been created to increase our junior tier numbers to strengthen
the team, improve work life balance for our clinicians by enabling a maximum of
1:3 weekend working and improve our ability to deliver high quality care to our
patients.
This post has been designed primarily for foundation
trainees looking to take a year out between CT/ST or gain additional experience
in emergency medicine. The majority of our previous clinical fellows have been
successful in gaining training posts both within the North East and
beyond.
Consideration will be given to overseas graduates who have
no experience of working in the NHS but who have significant previous
experience in Emergency Medicine. This is an excellent opportunity for suitable
candidates to start their NHS career.
The applicants will be expected to have undergone
appropriate foundation training or equivalent training. Preference will be
given to those who have previous experience in Emergency Medicine. There will
be opportunities to develop skills in emergency medicine, point of care
ultrasound, quality improvement, and teaching and training including
simulation, with 2 weeks of paid study leave, as well as self-directed
educational development time.
The department has a broad case mix with approximately 30%
of patients attending the department brought by 999 ambulance. Consequently
close working relationships with the Acute Assessment/Same Day Emergency Care
Units are essential to help speed the process of managing patients who attend
the hospitals with acute illness. We would positively welcome applications from
candidates with an interest in acute medicine.
We are a Trauma Unit and work in close
relationship with the Northern Trauma Network. We see more than average major
trauma patients, as compared to other Trauma units in the region, due to
geographical location as the west of the catchment area is more than one hour
from the major trauma centre and hence does not bypass.
