Job summary

the ward clerk plays and itegral role on the ward as part of the first face / voice a patient may see / hear on a ward, their the link between patients / nurses and consultants on the ward area.

Main duties of the job

the candidates main duties are to

prep notes for patients attending for theatre on a daily basis., and forward plan notes for the coming weeks.

take phone calls

make appointments.

complete occasional audits.

stores ordering.

have excellent IT skills.

communicate with other wards and departments regarding patient information

scan notes

and have good organisational skills.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

a ward clerk provides administrative support to clinical staff on the ward area.

this includes answering the phone to updating confidential patient records and making sure that the nursing staff have upto date patient information.

you will lots of contact with both nursing staff / patients and patients familys, you may be asked to contact patients over the phone to update them on appointments or family members being discharged from hospital.

you will prodominantly on the elective orthopeadic ward, excellent comunication skill and IT skill are required.
