Job summary

Are you a highly motivated individual who enjoys a challenge? Would you enjoy working in a busy and dynamic team responsible for the education and training of junior doctors and medical students for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust? This is an excellent opportunity to use your proven administrative and organisational skills to enable the education and training of medical students and junior medical staff.

You will need to have excellent verbal and written communication skills in order to establish strong working relationships with colleagues, Resident Doctors, medical professionals and other NHS staff to provide support and advice to all students and Doctors in Training, as well as producing high quality training programmes in conjunction with the clinical teaching team.

Main duties of the job

To co-ordinate and implement high quality administration processes across the Trust in accordance with agreed priorities, which ensure the delivery of Foundation and Specialty Training Programmes, in order to support trainees and trainers in the delivery of education and training, to support the terms of the Resident Doctor Contract (2016).

To support the work of the Guardian of Safe Working, Tutors and Trainers associated with the delivery of the Resident Doctor Contract (2016) and the management of associated committees and their administration, quality assurance developments, primary care meetings and the local Resident Doctors Forum.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Work with the Medical Education Team and senior stakeholders to ensure that electronic rotas are available for all Doctors in Training in Care Groups linked to their Curricular and training requirements.

Manage the administration processes linked to the monthly KPIs programme for compliant rotas, including the delivery of training, quality assurance, allocation of resources and committee support for the delivery of high quality, safe medical education in clinical areas, for all doctors in training.

  • Excellent IT skills including good working knowledge of full Microsoft Office Suite and Windows Operating Systems.
  • Excellent administrative ability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills including verbal, written and telephone and the ability to present a positive and professional image at all times while understanding the need for diplomacy and tact.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage own workload; work on own initiative and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Ability to maintain complete confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to take minutes at high level meetings and monitor action plans and other key deadlines.
  • Adaptable, determined, self-motivated and enthusiastic with competence in dealing with situations involving other people.
  • Good organisational skills to meet demanding delivery schedules and provide support to trust staff.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of the Junior Doctors Terms & Conditions of Service.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 5 GCSE at grades A to C (English Language Essential) or equivalent qualification, or equivalent knowledge gained through work experience
