An exciting secondment opportunity has arisen for an
enthusiastic Band 6 Chemotherapy Junior Sister or Charge Nurse to join the
existing Chemotherapy team working in the Mara Unit at Bishop Auckland general
Hospital. The day units pride themselves on delivering the highest standards of
nursing care treating patients with a wide range of haematology and oncology
malignancies and conditions and specialises in the administration of
chemotherapy and immunotherapy. These are innovative and challenging times and we are developing other services to
support care closer to home. This is a great opportunity for you to join a
highly skilled, dynamic and friendly multidisciplinary team with an excellent
reputation. The post holder will work with minimal supervision and will be
designated to take charge of the ward/department in the absence of the ward
manager; who holds continuing responsibility.

care to patients and carers and support to new and junior members of staff
within the team as well work in
collaboration with the Northern Cancer Alliance, The Northern Cancer Centre and
all other cancer units in the Northern Cancer Alliance.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a dedicated and highly motivated nurse
who has previous experience working with oncology and haematology patients and
is highly competent in the safe administration of chemotherapy and
immunotherapy along with additional supportive treatments. They must be
competent in cannulation and venepuncture. Candidates must demonstrate a
compassionate and caring nature alongside excellent communication, clinical
leadership, sound decision making and organisational sills which are essential

implementing and evaluating patient care
To competently and safely administer cytotoxic chemotherapy/
immunotherapy and related treatments within a busy day unit setting
Act as a professional role model and provide facilitative
and effective clinical leadership to other team members
To be involved in service development in collaboration
with Department manager, contributing to the delivery and development of SACT
services and delivery pathways
To promote a nurse-led environment ensuring
that care is delivered as per trust policies and procedures and in accordance
