Job summary

We are looking for someone who is passionate about developing the skills of colleagues to join us for a twelve months placement or secondment.

We are based in Durham, but work flexibly, working from home on a Monday and Friday.

This role ensures that our colleagues in Finance, Procurement or Digital have access to the right professional development, by organising conferences and training events, as well as setting up and managing a range of special interest groups to bring people together to share ideas and working practices.

A knowledge of NHS Finance, Procurement or Digital would be an advantage but essentially we are looking for someone with enthusiasm and ideas; someone who has the excellent organisational and project management skills required to put on conferences and to develop learning programmes.

Main duties of the job

The North East & North Cumbria Skills Development function is responsible for developing, implementing and evaluating a training and development programme for Finance, Procurement and Informatics staff from all NHS Organisations throughout the North East & North Cumbria Region, working closely with the national programmes for all three functions.

The post holder will arrange professional development programmes and conferences available to all NHS organisations in the North East & North Cumbria area, effectively implementing our Skills Development strategy for Finance, Procurement and Digital staff, alongside our small team who manage the day to day arrangements.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

You will be responsible for project managing the SDN Professional Development strategy ensuring that we source the right events to meet the needs of our colleagues. This will include face to face events, virtual webinars, one and two day conferences including workshops.

You will help to develop and create a culture of professional skills development across the patch, encouraging and supporting organisations in development initiatives, and communicating best practice and new ideas across the patch.

You will manage the NENC SDN professional development action plans and work with our two SDN Programme Leads to support their implementation.

You will establish, maintain and develop a regional network of Skills Development organisational leads.

You will manage the budget for specific projects and events.
