Clinical
Decisions Unit, UHND are looking to recruit two junior nurse practitioners for
a fixed term contract of four months from December 2024 to March 2025 to
support over the winter pressures season. This will be an excellent learning opportunity
for someone who is keen to develop their surgical knowledge and experience the
role of a surgical nurse practitioner. We are open 0730-2000 365 days per year
and are a nurse led service comprising of advanced nurse practitoners, higher
level HCAS and admin staff with the support of the on call surgical team. It is essential that you have your clinical
skills ready to step in and sound knowledge of surgical pathologies and
management.
Main duties of the job
You
will be responsible for the assessment of patients within our unit, you will
triage calls from ED, primary care and patients, offer advice and guidance and
signpost the referer to the most appropriate service. You will take a history,
examine, arrange investigations and liase with the senior surgical team to
ensure timely and appropriate management of CDU patients. You must be skilled
in venepuncture, cannulation and complex wound magament. The ability to
complete discharge letters and being IRMER trained would be advantagous but is
not essential as you will be working under the guidance of the advanced nurse
practitioner in charge.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
