Job summary
We are looking for an experienced Highly Specialist Speech
and Language Therapist to lead on elderly care SLT pathways. The successful
applicant will work within an MDT AHP team to deliver exemplary care to
patients with neurological and mental health communication and swallowing
disorders with the opportunity to work with stroke rehabilitation.
As the site lead the successful candidate will utilise their
outstanding organisation and communication skills in order to support SLT staff
and patients at Bishop Auckland Hospital to achieve outstanding Speech and
Language Therapy outcomes. The post holder will be supporting and supervising
specialist Speech and Language Therapists and an SLT Assistant. Experience of
managing elderly frail patients with complex dysphagia and communication
disorders including AAC in progressive neurological conditions, mental health
and stroke rehabilitation is essential.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will hold a degree in Speech and
Language Therapy and be registered with the Health Professionals Council. You will have significant post-graduate
experience of working with frail/ elderly adults with acquired neurological and
progressive communication and swallowing disorders, experience of working with
FEES, which is on-site would be an advantage but not essential as support to
acquire these skills will be provided.
You will be committed to continuing professional
development of higher level skills and be in possession of excellent
communication and prioritisation skills. You will hold an accredited post-basic
dysphagia qualification or equivalent.
An advanced qualification in dysphagia would be an advantage.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
