The palliative care service is looking to appoint a part time (9 sessions initially) consultant to provide join our existing consultants. We are keen to work with friendly enthusiastic people who would relish the challenge of delivering excellent palliative care services within a strong, cohesive and supportive team.
The post will be based in community and University Hospital of North Durham and have elements of acute, community and care home work.
The post holder will be joining a dynamic service with a great team of experienced Macmillan Specialist Nurses. The successful post holder will work alongside our key partners across County Durham and Darlington to deliver high quality specialist palliative care
Main duties of the job
The following job summary defines the scope of palliative care consultant work in CDDFT rather than the responsibilities of a single consultant. The exact nature of consultant duties will depend on the job plan agreed with individual applicants. Some of the duties are clearly setting specific.
Provide clinical leadership and expert knowledge in the field of palliative medicine for County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust (CDDFT).
Specifically:
To work collaboratively with other palliative care consultants and colleagues in primary and secondary care across the County to ensure the provision of high quality palliative care consistent with national standards and guidelines.
To work as part of the Specialist Palliative Care Consultant Team providing cover for all settings in County Durham and Darlington

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
