Job summary

Ward 31 is DMHs Trauma and Orthopaedics Ward (Non-Elective). This roles purpose is to provide administrative support to the clinical ward team and direct queries to the most appropriate clinical person on the ward. This role is a fundamental component to effective patient flow on the unit. The role is also a key point of contact for patients, relatives, carers and visitors

Main duties of the job

Typical duties of this role include but are not limited to

receive patients and visitors to the ward

input patient admission, attendance, transfer and discharge data to the necessary patient administration & information systems, ensuring patient and GP details are accurate and updated as necessary To arrange patient follow up and other appointments, as required

provide administrative support to ward-based clinics, as required

deal with telephone enquiries, taking and conveying messages appropriately

sort incoming mail and prepare outgoing mail for posting

prepare patient admission packs, as necessary

maintain temporary paper patient records during admission, ensuring that each item is correctly barcoded for scanning into the Electronic Clinical Document Management System (ECDMS)

maintain accurate ward bed board (until e-obs system fully implemented)

maintain ward staff board

maintain ward information board

To liaise with staff bank regarding shifts requiring nursing/HCA cover, as directed by the nurse in charge

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

Job responsibilities

To requisition repairs as necessary

The post holder holder may be required to undertake the role of Information Asset Administrator or Information Asset Owner to provide suppo rt for the control and administration of information assets within their area/department (details available on the Health Informatics web page)

To provide cover as required during absence of colleagues

To assist in auditory purposes and present / manage data for clinical governance
