Clinical Specialist Children's Occupational Therapist - Adoption

Job summary

We are looking to recruit a highly experienced, ambitious and forward thinking Children's Occupational Therapist to join an exciting new regional project. You will be working as an integral member of a new Multi-Disciplinary Team together with the North East Regional Adoption Agencies. As a member of this team you will be working to design and develop innovative, multi-disciplinary and multi-agency services for adoptive children, young people and families who require additional support.

The team will be led by a service manager who will provide operational leadership and day to day support. CDDFT is a key partner in this project and will offer professional supervision to the successful candidate.

The successful candidate will be registered with Health and Care Professions Council, with a minimum of 4 years clinical experience within field of Children's OT. Clinical experience of working with children and young people who present with behaviours indicative of neurodiversity and/or attachment and trauma based needs will be highly desirable although not essential.

Project funding is available for 18 months with a view to developing and shaping ongoing services for the future.

Main duties of the job

Within this role, the successful candidate will be expected to:

* Contribute to specialist multi-agency assessment of children aged 7-11 years presenting with occupational performance challenges during their experience of being a child in care and subsequent adoption. This may be related to a variety of factors which may or may not include neurodiversity and/or difficulties linked to emotional attachment

* Deliver group based / individual programmes of intervention to identified children where appropriate. Nature of interventions will be needs based, supported by evidence and outcome focussed.

* Deliver training and professional support to families and carers and other professionals involved with the wellbeing of children accessing the service

* Use their skill base to contribute professional specific knowledge and expertise together with different agencies and professionals to support the development of high quality, timely interventions to children and families requiring higher level adoption support.

* Work across the North East region - pattern will be hybrid in nature with a mixture of virtual and face to face contacts

* Actively contribute to project development throughout.

The successful candidate will require the following skills:

Clinical

* To be able to identify at a specialist clinical level, the occupational performance difficulties experienced by children referred into the service, who have experienced adverse life events, developmental trauma and may have neurodevelopmental differences

* To work as an autonomous practitioner, making clinical decisions appropriate to the specialist level of knowledge skills and experience of a professional Occupational Therapist

* To provide Occupational Therapy assessment, support and clinical interventions to identified children, young people and their families and carers

* To work closely with team colleagues and wider professional groups involved with the children / young people, to encourage the development of environments that promote and support the child's independence and developing occupational performance skills

* To be a source of clincal expertise and advice for the wider multi-disciplinary team, to aid in diagnosis and planning of interventions and support for children, young people and families.

* To work in a collaborative manner with children, young people, families and carers as well as the wider team - agreeing and making decisions with the needs and wellbeing of the child at the centre.

* To negotiate team / individual therapy goals with the child/young person, parents/carers and relevant others involved in the child's care
