Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse
The Trauma and Orthopaedic Team based at Darlington Memorial
Hospital, has an opportunity for a Band 6 Clinical Sister / Charge Nurse, to
join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for a nurse who is motivated
and passionate about delivering high standards of patient care.
The service is based at Darlington Memorial Hospital on ward
31 and is responsible for all patients attending the trust with Trauma and
Orthopaedic related injuries, including elective orthopaedic services. The ward
is also the designated area for looking after all Head injuries under the care
of our Emergency Department Team.
We are also recruiting a Clinical Sister /
Charge Nurse for the Surgical Ward within the same division. The Surgical Team
are based on Ward 32 and is a direct surgical admissions ward caring for a
range of surgical services along with ENT services. This is a busy surgical
admissions unit and would give a great opportunity for professional development
for anyone wishing to advance in their career.
Main duties of the job
The role will invovle the participation of the leadership
structure witin the ward based enviroement and you will work alongside the Ward
Manager to succesfully lead the team and provide outstanding nursing care to
all patients.
This will involve leading the team clinically as the Nurse
in charge and be responsible for the day to day running of the department
ensuring patient care is delivered safely and effectively.
You will work with the Ward Manager to provide
support, education and assist in the managerial duties of staff line management
reviewing sickess, rosters and risk management.

- Diploma /required nursing qualification
- Teaching Qualification, (Willing to work towards)
- Evidence of continual professional development

- Previous Orthopaedic / Trauma experience
- Degree in Nursing

- Ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing care for patients in the Trauma and Orthopaedic / Surgical Department.
- Maintain accurate nursing records
- Competently deal with medical emergencies and prioritise your own work load.
- Experience of managing patients with fluctuating medical concerns.
- Experience of taking the Nurse in Charge role either as a Band 6 or as a Band 5 in the absence of the ward sister, including day shifts and night duty.
- Help maintain patient flow through the department and evidence examples of how you have achieved this.
- Support discharges within the ward and demonstrate knowledge around the discharges processes including complex cases.

- Demonstarting Co-Ordinating duties such as Ward rounds, working within the MDT, maintaining patient flow throughout the department and how to escalate concerns.
- The ability to discuss and explain complex nursing care and treatment to both patients and their families.
- Experience of mentoring Students and knowledge of the pre registration nursing competencies and requirments.

- Previous Trauma & Orthopaedic / Surgical experience.
- Either as Band 5 or Band 6 Registered nurse demonstrating that you have the knowledge of completing appraisals, acknowledging and responding to incident reports and dealing with patient complaints both verbally and formally.
