Job summary
An
exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic clinical coder
with 2 + years practical coding experience to join our well-established team at County
Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust. You will be expected to interact
with clinicians and operational staff, be responsible for your own work load
and meet increasingly demanding deadlines whilst maintaining accurate clinical
coding at all times. You will also have the opportunity to mentor less
experienced members of the clinical coding team giving sound knowledge and
guidance when required.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will have the responsibilty
for the coding of a multitude of specialities by extracting information from
various clinical documents in the electronic patient record and translating
into diagnostic (ICD-10) and procedure coding (OPCS 4.10). Specialities include
Surgery, Breast Surgery, ENT, Opthalmology, Oral, Dermatology, Urology,
Gynaecology and Medicine. As an Accredited Clinical Coder you will be expected
to mentor junior staff given sound knowledge and guidance when required this
may involve liasing with clinicians and other clinical /clerical staff. You
will be also required to particapiate in audits.

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

- Degree level education
- Basic Computer course, E.g. ECDL
