Healthcare Assistant in Community Dermatology

Job summary
We are seeking a part time Band 3 Health Care Assistant to join our friendly team to assist in supporting our service in the acute site and in the community. We are looking for someone with experience of using their initiative in a busy environment and the ability to work unsupervised in line with local guidelines for dermatology in the community out-patient clinics and within the minor procedure operating room.
You will need an NVQ Level 3 in care or equivalent demonstrable experience, phlebotomy, good communication and IT skills. We can offer training and short courses as appropriate and a 3 month competency programme to help you develop new and existing skills.
You will be based in Bishop Auckland and travel to Seaham, usually, but not always one day a week. You will also cover other sites across Trust, for example Darlingtom Memorial Hospital
to provide cover and meet the full team. Specific duties will be set once competency has been confirmed.

Main duties of the job
Based in Bishop Auckland Hospital, but able to cover other sites within the Trust, duties will include setting up and assisting during minor skin surgery lists and undertaking the role of circulating assistant. Printing off documentation prior to clinics and surgery lists. Maintaining a caring, safe and supportive environment for patients undergoing skin surgery and being seen in dermatology clinics. Giving patients advice on post operative wound care. Basic wound dressings.
Acting as chaperone.
Taking blood and dermatology specific samples in your own clinics alongside Dermatology Doctors and, or the Specialist nurses.
Use IT systemssuch as Cardea, SystmOne, ESR
Ordering stock and stock control. Taking on specific duties with regard to, for example, Medical devices; Health and Safety, for example undertaking DSE risk assessments.
