An exciting
opportunity has arisen for a part time (30hrs Monday - Thursday) IV Clinical
Nurse Specialist Band 6 post in County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation
Trust. The main role is to insert ultrasound guided peipheral vascular access
devices for treatment and diagnosis reasons for inpatients in the acute
settings and also identifying those patients who are suitable for our OPAT
service. The role also includes providing formal an informal intravenous education, provide ongoing care
and maintenance of inpatients intravenous devices, monitoring of clinical
intravenous practice and contribute to research and development. The post will
also involve collaboration with other services and provide clinical advice on
various organisational committees. Must be able to meet the travel requirements of the role
Main duties of the job
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Act as an expert resource on intravenous practice to the
clinical areas.
Co-ordinate a case load of patients requiring intravenous
access and treatment
Review vascular access practice in clinical areas ensuring
that this complies with trust guidelines.
Facilitate the early removal of intravenous devices and
re-insert these where required.
Ensure that documentation, including the VIP score, is
accurately completed.
Monitor compliance of intravenous practice with trust
policy.
Work collaboratively with others to ensure that education is
provided to a consistent standard.
Provide intravenous related training and education across
the organisation.
Able to meet the travel requirements of the role
Support the provision of a high quality, value for money and
effective service within available resources whilst contributing to the
organisational investment plan to ensure effective service planning and
development in line with service needs.
To practice in accordance with the
NMC Code of Professional Conduct with particular reference to acknowledging and
assessment the competencies of staff.

We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.
