Job summary

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates to gain further skills and knowledge of working within Emergency Medicine and is suitable for those looking to develop their portfolio prior to application for a training scheme post or those who wish to continue down a career grade pathway.

Main duties of the job

Main duties include assisting in provision of effective emergency treatment to the patients attending in a timely manner meeting the ED 4 hour target without compromising the quality of patient care, participation in the department’s Teaching and Audit Programmes, ensure the departmental and hospital policies and protocols are respected and adhered and maintains and carries out duties as per GMC standards, trust policies.

This is an opportunity to join a dynamic and enthusiastic team who believe in leading from the frontline and aim to provide outstanding care. The department is supported by an excellent consultant and middle grade tier which provides 24 hour cover. The ED is blessed with an excellent and supportive nursing team and our friendly atmosphere is frequently commented upon by past junior doctors. These are new posts which have been created to increase our junior tier numbers to strengthen the team, improve work life balance for our clinicians by enabling a maximum of 1:3 weekend working and improve our ability to deliver high quality care to our patients.

The applicants will be expected to have undergone appropriate foundation training or equivalent training. Preference will be given to those who have previous experience in Emergency Medicine. There will be opportunities to develop skills in emergency medicine, point of care ultrasound, quality improvement, and teaching and training including simulation, with 2 weeks of paid study leave, as well as 3 hours per week of paid self-directed educational development time.

  • Evidence of leading quality improvement or audit project.
  • Evidence of teaching ability and documented feedback on sessions delivered.

  • MBBS or equivalent
  • Current ALS provider status
  • Attained F2 competences or equivalent

Desirable

  • ATLS/APLS (or equivalent) provider
  • MRCEM/FRCEM intermediate
