Job summary
This
is an exciting develepment for Podiatry with the implementation of 2 First
Contact Podiatrists within Derwentside PCN. We are looking for highly experienced,
dedicated and flexible staff to move into these exciting new roles based at
Consett Medical Centre and Louisa Surgery Stanley.
Main duties of the job
To interpret and analyse clinical and non-clinical
information to form a diagnosis and prognosis in a wide range of highly complex
Podiatric conditions, to recommend the best course of intervention and to
develop comprehensive discharge plans.
To undertake the comprehensive assessment of patients with
complex Podiatric conditions, using investigative and analytical skills, and to
formulate individualised management and treatment plans, using advanced
clinical reasoning, and utilising a wide range of treatment skills and options
to formulate a specialised programme of care, on individual or group basis.
This may include injection therapy.
Identify and act appropriately in the case of red flags.
To represent the Podiatry service externally, working within
GP practices regarding Podiatry services provided to patients with a Podiatric
condition.
To demonstrate highly specialist clinical skills with
complex cases usually involving overcoming barriers to treatment.
To be clinically responsible for a designated caseload of patients,
and to organise this effectively and efficiently with regard to clinical
priorities
To demonstrate highly developed dexterity,
co-ordination and palp

We provide hospital services from two acute sites - Darlington Memorial Hospital and University Hospital of North Durham. We have a centre for planned care in Bishop Auckland and provide care from community hospitals in Chester-le-Street, Shotley Bridge, Barnard Castle, Sedgefield and Weardale as well as over 80 other community based settings and providing care in patients' homes.

caseload referred with Podiatry conditions.
The post holder is an autonomous practitioner, highly skilled and
specialised, using diagnostic / assessment / treatment techniques within the
speciality. The client may present with
acute, complex and / or chronic presentation.
The post holder will be involved in seeing patients, without
prior contact with their GP, in order to establish a rapid and accurate
diagnosis and management plan.
The post holder will deliver clinical education to staff within
the GP practice and staff within the
speciality and students at graduate level.
The post holder may be expected to contribute to
extended hours of work as necessary e.g. evening clinics as the service
evolves.Working independantly and as part of a team providing Podiatry
Biomechanics/MSK services to patients within County Durham and Darlington.

- BSc (Hons) Podiatry or equivalent
- Continuing Professional Development Diary including evidence of reflective practice, post grad training to modular masters level and clinical experience
- Significant experience in all areas of Podiatry Practice
Desirable
- Recognised relevant academic qualification in relation to Specialist Podiatry conditions.
- Injection therapy competent
- An understanding of County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, its culture, strategic direction, achievements and NHS standing
- Appropriate post graduate MSK and/or Diabetic training to MSc (or equivalent) level
