Job summary

Ward 11 is a busy elective multi-specialty surgical unit. An exciting oportunity has arisen for a dynamic clinical sister to join our team. The sucessful applicant will be able to work under pressure, be able to prioritise workloads, have outstanding leadership qualities and support the ward manager, to ensure that high standards of patient care is devilvered, whilst supporting junior staff with their training and development needs with a view to enhancing their existing nursing skills.

As a clinical sister you will work closely with a range of MDT professionals to ensure that our patients have a positive patient journey.

You will have excellent clinical and personal qualities, which you will utilise to ensure our staff are supported to deliver high quality patient care.

The successful candidate will be supported in their new role and be given the opportunity to develop their skills in areas of ward management, including, e-roster, staff appriaisals and sickness and absence management.

Main duties of the job

Provide strong clinical leadership skills, supporting, inspiring others to ensure effective management of the ward.

Supports patients, carers and others in difficult situations arising in the clinical setting, i.e breaking bad news.

Supervises and monitors junior staff in developing necessary skills to identify care priorities and addresses them in a timely manner, seeking advice where appropriate.

Communicate and interacts with patients, carers and staff in a non-judgmental way, demonstrating mutual respect and trust, utilising a varity of communication skills.

To assist and support the ward manager in the establishment of an efficient working enviroment.

Co-ordinaing day to day management of the clinical area, delegating duties and care appropriately, whilst maintaining responsibiltity.

To be involved in the development, assessment and implementation of guidelines, protocols and pathways.

To deputise for the ward manager in their absense.

Working on a fast paced multisurgical elective unit, working under pressure whilst ensuring that nursing care is provided which meets or exceeds the level of patient expectations.

To manage the delivery of nursing care, deploying staff effectively and ensuring appropriate delegation of junior staff.
