Job summary
A fixed term post or secondment opportunity has arisen
within the trust Acute Oncology Service with funding initially secured until
March 2024.
This is a band 6
nursing post, to work alongside the existing team over full time hours.
The post has arisen as the team will be expanding their role to incorporate
work with the SNSS team reviewing cases where patients present with Serious Non
Specific Symptoms which could lead to a cancer diagnosis. It is hoped that
funding will continue beyond next March and this will be subject to business
case approval

Main duties of the job
In CDDFT the role of a Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist
(CNS) is defined as a qualified nursing role whose primary purpose is to
provide guidance, support and treatment based on an advanced level of knowledge
to patients, carers and health professionals concerning a specific
disease/condition.
The Macmillan Acute Oncology Cancer Clinical Nurse
Specialist (CNS) will:
Be
responsible under supervision of the Band 7 CNS for the delivery of
compassionate evidence-based care to patients within the specialist area of
Acute Oncology.
Work as
an autonomous practitioner within the AOS
Team.
Be
responsible for the care delivered, demonstrating critical thinking and skills
in clinical decision-making in the management of patients within the specialist
area of Acute Oncology .
Provide a
continuing supportive service inclusive of information and advice within acute,
primary and community settings to patients, their carers and the staff who
support them on all aspects of the cancer affecting them and its treatment.
Work
collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to meet the needs of
patients, support the delivery of policy and procedures, and provide nurse
leadership as required.
