We have an exciting
opportunity for a full time advanced MSK
physiotherapist to join our friendly, supportive and successful CDIMS MSK team
in County Durham and Darlington NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest
intergrated health care trusts in the country. The CDIMS service is a single
point of access service for all MSK referrals for the region and continues to
develop e.g recently securing FCP contracts and rheumatology ESPs. CDIMS can
provide you with many future career opportunities/ experiences.
This post is based at University Hospital North Durham. The
post has responsibility of co-ordinating
patients journey to rehabilitation across the county and region from the
fracture clinic setting. Together with a daily virtual and face to face soft
tissue injury clinic taking referrals from A&E.
The post holder will liaise closely with the orthopeadic and
A&E teams. There will be a supervisory role working with a band 6 senior
physiotherapist, together with a requirement to supervise students on
placement.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will work with CDIMS team providing evidence based assessment,
treatment and rehabilitation for patients. Your caseload of patients are
referred from secondary care # clinic and trauma consultants in the fracture
clinic setting. You will organise ongoing treatment for patients from your
assessment / triage onto appropriate departments or a base closer to their
home.
The virtual soft tissue clinic is a daily clinic taking
referrals from A&E. You will be required to provide an initial telephone assessment.
Following which you will clinically reason a shared decision for ongoing
management of the patient. Your diary will consist of available face to face
appointments for full assessment face to face of patients as required .
Patients can be referred on to secondary care.
CDDFT MSK physiotherapy team has a strong supportive culture

The post holder will be supported by an ESP in A&E and ESPs from within the MSK department together
with the operational lead.

You will be expected to provide training to band 6
rotational MSK staff at UHND to ensure they meet competancies and high
standards of care to patients. You will
be expected to provide shadowing opportunities for Band 5 and band 6 MSK
rotational staff while on inductions or within their rotations.
We also offer support
to physiotherapists requiring a return to practice placement for HCPC re -
registration through an honorary contract, can also indicate on your
application if you wish to be considered for this process.
Within a normal working day within
the CDIMS service you have ESP and senior colleague support available, together
with support from the orthopeadic team. CDIMS also has a robust intranet
physiotherapy site which provides you with
guidance on all local MSK pathways and protocols.
Many CDIMS band 7 physiotherapists
have injection skills on our sites, and are available for case discussions. Appropriate
patients for injections can be booked in designated slots following a shared
decision process with your patients. Assistants band 3 staff are available at
every site to support you to rehabilitate patients, you can refer for
individualised care by providing a plan or protocol.
You will be teamed with a band 8a
ESP as a supervisor who will support your personal development plan within the
appraisal framework. CDDFT support protected supervision time which is led by
the supervisee for your individual needs.
Shadowing and training is available throughout
the full service with consultants, A&E, plastics, FCPs in GP practices, ESPs
in all specialities. This is arranged within your personal development plan. The
department runs In-service training sessions together with access to learning
on e -learning for health. External courses can be accessed by inclusion onto
the annual training needs anaylsis by the department.
CDIMS use SystmOne for clinical
note keeping - training can be provided in a way to suit your individual needs,
using test patients if you are unfamiliar with this System within your
induction program. CDDFT provide a full induction program which includes
mandatory training together with a local physiotherapy induction tailored to
your needs. Training will also be provided with all CDDFT ICT programs as
required. You will also be provided with you own laptop.
Full training for student
supervision can be arranged with a local university and you would be supported
by colleagues with students until you become familiar with processes.
You will have access to
rehabmypatient program for individualised exercise prescriptions for your
patients, together with evidenced based leaflets on our intranet produced by
the teams special interest groups. These can be accessed in paper form or
electronic versions according to patients individual needs.
You will have opportunities to
develop leadership skills in conjunction with clinical e.g interviewer,
appraisal training. CDIMS promotes all staff to be involved with quality
improvement projects and promotes future career opportunities. New ideas are
always welcome to promote efficiency and quality for our patients at CDDFT.
