Please note on 1st March 2026, the Estates and Facilities Services for Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, will transfer to East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and become part of OneLSC.
We are seeking an enthusiastic and innovative person to work directly with the Trust Waste Minimisation Officer and members of the Estates Team in providing day to day and specialist project support. The role will be mainly based in the Estates Department at the Royal Preston Hospital site, but may also involve visiting other Trust sites including Chorley Hospital, Preston Business Centre and smaller clinical premises.
The Trust has a significant green agenda including the implementation of a Green Plan, Net Zero Carbon Delivery Plan and Waste Strategy. We need you to help us make a difference and meet our green targets, so it is essential that you have both enthusiasm for and some knowledge of, sustainability and the environment.
Your duties will include general administration, liaising with various clinical and non-clinical departments, external customers of the Trust's Waste Transfer Station, contractors and suppliers. You will be responsible for maintaining waste management records and training systems, along with producing regular waste production data and reports. We also require you to establish and maintain auditing/monitoring systems for waste, as well as carrying out some waste management audits across the organisation.

You will be responsible for maintaining waste management records and training systems, along with producing regular waste production data and reports. We also require you to establish and maintain auditing/monitoring systems for waste, as well as carrying out some waste management audits across the organisation.
You must demonstrate flexible working, excellent communication skills and be very organised and methodical. You will be expected to work both in an office environment and a clinical environment when visiting wards and departments. As some of our waste storage facilities are external, you will also be required to carry out some work outdoors.

Qualifications & Education
Essential
- At least 5 GCSEs including Maths and English, at C grade or above
Desirable
- ECDL (European Computer Driving Licence)
- Shorthand qualification 100 wpm
- RSA II or equivalent, plus relevant practical experience
- A recognised qualification in an business and/or environmental related subject OR a minimum of 3 years practical/relevant experience
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
- Previous experience of working within the NHS
- Confident and efficient use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet
- Experience of providing a comprehensive administrative service
- Demonstrate a commitment to continuing professional development
- Carrying out auditing and monitoring of activities across large and multiple sites
- Implementation of new systems and procedures in a healthcare environment (project work).
- Experience of liaising with external suppliers, finance and procurement departments regarding invoice queries, orders, payments
