Team Leader - Blood Transfusion

The closing date is 05 October 2025

Job summary

Are you looking to move on from working 'out of hours' and to progress to a Team Leader position in Blood Transfusion ?

Royal Preston Blood Transfusion is a highly advanced UKAS accredited laboratory offering remote release refrigerators in all main areas, supported by the Haemonetics Blood Tracking solution. In addition we operate a bespoke Blood Transfusion LIMS with full electronic product fating, full ward patient lookup including sample validity, e-issue suitability and issued products with location. This is a full time, permanent post working across both sites.

Main duties of the job

You will ensure that legal requirements of the Blood Safety & Quality Regulations S1 2005/50 are adhered to along with standards set by the CQC, UKAS, NICE & MHRA are achieved by the Trust in relation to Blood Transfusion.

Working with clinical staff and Transfusion practitioners, you will ensure that blood transfusion is carried out by trained and competent staff and that blood transfusion practice is benchmarked against national standards.

Your duties will include supporting the team in the day to day organisation, management and supervision of laboratory areas to ensure delivery of a timely, quality service. You will be expected to take an active role in the training and development of staff and to have good communication skills. You will be expected to participate in the Senior management meetings to understand and support delivery of the operational services as well as deputise in the absence of the Lead BMS and other Team Leaders

Applicants must be HCPC registered Biomedical scientist and should hold an MSc qualification in Blood Transfusion or Haematology (you will be required to provide proof of qualification/MSc module information prior to interview).

You will enable the Trust to improve safety and effectiveness in the practice of Blood transfusion by fulfilling the recommendations of the NHSBT Patient blood management team (including HSC 2007/001 "Better Blood Transfusion")
