Our department performs investigative testing on the brain, nerves and muscles to help diagnose a range of conditions from Epilepsy to MND. We work directly with patients in our department, on wards and in ICU, neonatal unit and theatre.

Main duties of the job

Over a jam-packed two year period you will complete an 'Individual Record of Clinical Practice' portfolio, as well as obtaining a Postgraduate Certificate in Neurophysiology from Aston University.

Initially, you will gain hands-on experience in performing routine, sleep and portable EEGs as well as assisting in nerve conduction and EMG clinics. You will be working directly with patients so will need to be friendly and adaptable. You will be required to multitask, making the patient feel comfortable and relaxed as well as using diagnostic equipment to obtain high quality data.

It is crucial that you are able to work as part of a team and be keen and willing to put 100% effort into reaching your full potential. The department provides comprehensive range of neurophysiological procedures including routine, sleep, ambulatory and portable EEGs recording for both adults and paediatrics in ICU and neonatal. Clinical physiologists are also involved in performing MSLTs, evoked potentials, nerve conduction studies and intra-operative monitoring in theatres.

The Neurosciences Centre comprises both Neurosurgery and Medical Neurosciences (Neurology, Neurophysiology, neuroradiology, including interventional neuroradiology, neuropathology and Neurorehabilitation). The population served by the Neurosciences Centre is approximately 1.6 million from the catchment area of Lancashire and South Cumbria.
