Job summary

Are you passionate about patient safety, clinical governance, clinical effectiveness, and risk management? We are delighted to advertise a secondment opportunity within the corporate governance team for the role of Governance & Risk Officer.

In this role, you will facilitate and support work carried out by the corporate governance team to ensure assurance can be provided for all areas of clinical governance and risk management.

This post would ideally suit a dynamic, experienced professional who has a passion for patient safety and quality of care. You must be able to use your own initiative and have excellent organisational skills.

You should be enthusiastic, proactive, and able to communicate effectively.

In particular, we require you to be a team player, work to deadlines and at pace, demonstrate excellent skills in IT, and have an understanding of databases and action logs that will facilitate the efficient monitoring of local agendas.

Main duties of the job

The purpose of this post is to provide a focus on the administration of the Incident & Risk Management system (Datix); administration and analysis of CQC Enquiries, External Accreditation/Peer Review Visits, CQC Visits, and other key governance data to support the development of policies and processes which impact across the organisation. This will help support the creation and maintenance of an effective organisation-wide approach.

You will deliver Datix training as appropriate to support the process for appropriate investigation, management, and closure of incidents. You will also support the Risk Management Strategy and Risk Maturity Programme across the Trust as necessary.

You will ensure that LTH governance systems are developed in line with Trust priorities, and that appropriate and accurate evidence can be retrieved from the systems and provided to managers in a timely and efficient manner. You will also maintain effective systems for the provision of information on governance, risk management, and legal activities to provide assurance on the delivery of governance.

Qualifications and Education

Essential

  • Diploma (or equivalent e.g. NVQ 4 or 5) in Risk Management or equivalent level of experience
  • Evidence of Management development
  • Qualification and/or training in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook)/ECDL and information systems at Intermediate Level
  • Evidence of Continuous Professional Development

Desirable

  • Datix Certified Professional Certificate

Knowledge and Experience

Essential

  • Experience of developing and maintaining information systems (e.g., DATIX Risk Management Software, Complaints, Incidents, Risk, CQC enquiries, Safety Alerts, NHSLA)
  • Demonstrable experience in providing, receiving and analysing complex, sensitive or contentious information both written and verbally.
  • Substantial experience of communicating effectively internally and externally (e.g. patients, clients, public, partners, key stakeholders).
  • Previous administration experience
  • Experience of working in a busy office environment

Desirable

  • Previous experience of working in the NHS
  • Experience of working within a clinical setting and experience of delivering change to clinical / nursing practices utilising best practice evidence
  • Experience of supporting the preparation of reports to Board, Executive and Senior Managers.
