LTHTR values extremely its Senior Clinical Fellows and in a first of its kind in the UK, we have agreed and committed ourselves to provide all Senior Clinical Fellows joining the trust and those already working with us, a personal career progression pathway with support to become autonomous practitioners if they aspire to do so.
The new appointee will have duties in the hub and across the spoke sites Wigan, Morecambe Bay or Blackpool. The network has a total of twelve Vascular Consultants, and the successful candidate will be one of a team of 9 Middle Grades working across the four trusts, participating in a "Vascular Surgeon of the Week" and a separate vascular on call and weekend rota.
Main duties of the job
The Middle Grade "Vascular Surgeon of the Week" supports consultant led daily ward rounds, coordination, assessment, and management of emergency referrals. Whilst working as "Vascular Surgeon of the Week", all elective duties are cancelled.
The post holder will:
Specifically adopt, in conjunction with colleagues, an active role in planning, development and delivery of the vascular service in a busy vascular unit.
Participate in the weekly network MDT meetings with colleagues from all disciplines involved in the care of vascular patients.
Participate in the out of hours vascular on-call rota.
Provide activity support in the non-intervention centre hospital trusts (Wigan, Blackpool or Morecambe Bay).
About us
Modern education centres are based at the Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/internet support for hospital doctors and GPs as well as other medical and dental practitioners.
The Trust supports the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal College of Surgeons and is committed to providing time and support for these activities.
The post holder will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust
There are two new dedicated vascular operating theatres, including a hybrid operating theatre with built-in video facilities for teaching purposes and video-linkage to the Education Centre.
The contract may be supplemented or amended by local collective agreements reached with trade unions recognised by the Trust and the rules and resolutions of the Trust Board.

The post-holder is likely to have day case and out-patient duties in the spoke trusts and affiliated hospitals, and he / she will be responsible for assessing in-house referrals arising at these sites. Job plans are arranged in order that each non-arterial trust has a consultant and/or middle grade vascular surgical presence on at least three days per week.
