Job summary
When people need us, we are there for them every step of the way. Working in our SAFE Centre, you will support our patients by giving safe, professional and empathetic support to each and every one.
Our team supports victims of sexual assault who come to us at their most scared and vulnerable - the processes we have in place to ensure they are safe, secure and comforted are a vital part of helping them navigate through it. You will support them whilst clinical colleagues undertake forensic examinations as well as interviews with the police or other regulatory bodies and we cannot underestimate the value of the role you will play in ensuring they feel cared about and listened to. Having a friendly face to take them through the stages they need to go through is such a comfort to them and we know it helps them relax as much as they can under the circumstances.
You will work 08:00-19:00 x2 days a week. You will be required to attend a minimum of 4 monthly meetings and group supervision sessions a year. If there are no cases, you will be involved with assisting the Centre Manager, Outreach and coordinator as required.There is the opportunity for the post holder to join the out of hours should they wish.
Candidates must ensure they can work the specified shift pattern of two shifts 08:00 - 19:00 between Monday and Friday.Candidates must also be aware that there is a future requirement for all SARC staff to provide a DNA sample for elimination purposes.
Main duties of the job
- You will help ensure that there is a welcoming environment when patients and visitors access the Centre.
- We help explain the processes our patients will go through, the procedures they will undertake, take down accurate information to ensure we capture everything and help them most of all by being there when they need us the most.
- You will assist with the administration and management of patients accessing our SAFE Centre. This includes crisis management and patient advocacy and assisting with emergency out of hour's crisis telephone calls.
- Your sensitive, non-judgemental nature and engaging communication style will ensure the provision of effective advocacy support and telephone support to callers.
- Calm natured, you'll provide information to enable patients to make informed decisions in relation to the self-referral option, medical care, forensic examination, making a police report and onward referrals.
- As well as supporting our patients, you will also ensure a high standard of DNA decontamination between forensic cases by undertaking a forensic clean down. This is a vital part of the role and its importance cannot be underestimated.

- To know and understand the processes and procedures involved in attending the Lancashire SAFE Centre and to explain these clearly to the patient to gain informed consent for examination.
- To prepare the pre and post examination areas of the Centre in readiness to receive patients and to ensure that all areas are left in a forensically clean state.

- To participate in general administrative duties in relation to the smooth running of the Centre when on call.
- To inform callers about the Centre services offered and provide information surrounding other voluntary and statutory services available in relation to sexual assault and other associated issues.
- To offer limited telephone support to callers requiring assistance surrounding sexual assault, adhering to Centre and Trust policies and procedures.
Training and development
- To engage with the training and development for Crisis Workers within the centre.
- To attend an initial local induction with the Centre Manager/Practice Development followed by an agreed period of shadowing and mentorship prior to becoming solo on the on call rota.
- To attend and keep up to date with mandatory training.
- Adhere to, have knowledge and understanding of the Centre and Trusts policies and procedures to ensure the smooth and safe running of the service.
