Job summary
This post is for a Senior Clinical Fellow - ST4(+) level - in Simulation and Emergency Medicine at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Emergency Medicine Services at Preston and Chorley are unified under a single Directorate. The successful candidate will be expected to work on both sites.
This post is fixed term for 12 months. The post will be split 60:40 between clinical duties and simulation activity. This is a full-time post, however applications from candidates seeking a part time post will be considered.
Main duties of the job
During dedicated simulation time you will develop and expand the current in-situ simulation programme in the Emergency Department; be involved in the delivery of the newly designed trust wide multi disciplinary trauma training simulations; become core faculty on regional Emergency Medicine Simulation Courses and be coached to develop as a debriefer and simulationist.
The successful applicant will work across both of our hospital sites, and so will gain experience in working in a Major Trauma Centre and tertiary centre for many hospital specialties as well a District General Hospital and will be exposed to a whole variety of Emergency Medicine presentations.

There is a lot of enthusiasm for the in-situ simulation programme and the staff are very keen to see more of it.
The Lancashire Simulation Centre has a longstanding history of supporting education fellows and will play an important role in developing you as an simulationist, drawing on their years of experience in this field.

Essential
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- MBBS or equivalent (primary medical degree as recognised by the GMC)
- Certification in ALS and at least one of: APLS, ATLS/ETC
Desirable
- Higher qualification: FRCEM (Primary), FRCEM (Intermediate), MRCS, MRCP, etc.
- Instructor status in ALS, ATLS, APLS, etc.
Training Grade
Desirable
- Completion of ST3, or equivalent, in Emergency Medicine
Experience and Skills
Essential
- 4 years of postgraduate medical experience/training of which at least 12 months must be in Emergency Medicine (at least 6 months of this should be in the UK in a training or middle grade post at ST3 level or above)
- Ability to initiate appropriate initial management in common emergencies and to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement.
- Must not have been out of clinical practice for longer than 2 years.
- Good IT skills
