Job summary

Lancashire and South Cumbria Pathology Service are looking for a Biomedical Scientist with a broad range of skills in Cellular Pathology to join our Digital Team working on the implementation of a network wide LIMS .

You will provide technical and subject matter expertise to the Digital Programme of works. This will include working with the departments to ensure the LIMS solution meets their needs, to integrate with the digital pathology solution and any future automated workflows.

Main duties of the job

You will have extensive knowledge of the different aspects of Cellular Pathology workflows from dissection through to reporting. Working with Cellular Pathology Managers, Consultants and other stakeholders to deliver a standardised and harmonised system for LSC. Youwill use their knowledge and experience to guide, supervise and coordinate standardisation and harmonisation works required for digital projects.

There are two major digital projects currently underway which impact the service delivery in Cellular Pathology, a single network wide LIMS and a whole slide imaging digital pathology implementation. Integration between these two systems will be a key objective for your role.

You will also be instrumental in scoping of future technological improvements to the Cellular Pathology service delivery including automation of laboratory processes. Ensuring that any solutions are compatible with and integrated to the core systems.

  • Biomedical sciences degree
  • HCPC registration
  • Specialist portfolio in relevant field (or equivalent)
  • MSc in Biomedical Sciences or equivalent

Desirable

  • Management Qualification

Knowledge

  • Relevant Highly developed technical and scientific skills in Histology and Immunocytochemistry
  • Have in depth knowledge of Digital systems within the Cellular Pathology setting
  • Experience as a specialist in a clinical UK pathology laboratory
  • Experience of troubleshooting analytical and technical problems
  • Detailed understanding of quality assurance
  • Good knowledge of health and safety regulations and risk assessments
  • Evidence of highly developed written and oral communication skills in a variety of settings.
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Full understanding of the accreditation requirements
  • Quality management experience
  • Proven ability to manage resources effectively.

  • Experience of providing training to other staff groups
  • Electron Microscopy experience
