Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Junior Clinical Fellow post (ST1 level) within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Specialty at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to start as soon as possible.

The post is a 12-month fixed term contract. Lancashire Teaching Hospital is a large teaching hospital closely linked with the University of Manchester. The successful candidate will contribute to the 1st on-call rota for both Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The post is ideal for candidates who wish to gain experience and training in the specialty, and to broaden their skills prior to application to specialty training. Both full and less than full time applications will be considered.

Main duties of the job

The post is to work as a Junior Clinical Fellow (ST1-2 equivalent) within the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology currently on a full shift system. The appointee will be responsible to the Consultant/s to whom they are attached.

The main duties will be to support the running of the Obstetric and Gynaecological services on the Royal Preston Hospital site and at Chorley District Hospital.

About us

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust is a teaching hospital serving a local population of 450,000 across Greater Preston, Chorley and South Ribble. The Trust has approximately 4,700 births annually and a level three neonatal unit.

We provide services for high risk pregnancies with MDT, Bluebell and Rainbow clinics.

We are privileged to work closely with a team of midwives dedicated to improving the birth experience for all women. We offer all four choices for place of birth. There are midwifery led birth units at both Royal Preston Hospital and at Chorley & South Ribble Hospital and a 12 bedded obstetric unit in Royal Preston Hospital. There is a thriving home birth service, provided by a continuity of carer team and the Maternity Unit Network awarded the maternity service with Beacon Status as a result of the successful midwifery led services.

In gynaecology we provide services in benign gynaecology, early pregnancy, endometriosis, urogynaecology, ambulatory, menopause, paediatric, endocrine disorders, vulval conditions and termination of pregnancy.

We also provide tertiary gynaecological oncology services for Lancashire and South Cumbria with a specialist team of gynaecology oncologists. The Trust delivers regional services in neurosciences , plastic surgery, renal medicine, vascular surgery, interventional radiology and hosts the regional trauma centre.

Preston is one of four bases for Manchester university medical students.
