Job summary

We are currently seeking a Health Care Assistant who has an interest in breast care to join our dedicated team at Chorley. If you are a compassionate individual who values teamwork within a well established team, we want to hear from you!

This role is a fixed term post over 12 months covering the current post holders secondment. This will be based in the outpatient clinics and ideal for either an existing Band 3 or Band 2 Health Care Assistant who wants to explore and up skill in the area of breast care.

Main duties of the job

To always act in a manner that upholds the Trust values working as part of the breast unit team. To ensure that patients and relatives receive excellent care with compassion by providing a range of clinical duties under the guidance and supervision of the nurse in charge to include but not inclusive of: chaperone in clinical consultation and assessments, assisting patients with toileting needs, moving and handling, use of mobility appliances, correct patient positioning, carrying out simple wound assessment and dressings to include skin integrity, ensuring patient safety, taking specimens including blood sugars, taking and recording physical measurements, carrying out blood pressure monitoring, safe transfer of biopsies, Fine Needle Aspirations and wound swabs to the Pathology Lab. Be actively involved with weekly audits.

To support clinical activities which contribute to the maintenance of a safe and clean environment.

About us

Central Lancashire Breast Unit has a dedicated team providing a one-stop service for breast care patients in Central Lancashire. The team includes Consultant surgeons, Radiologists, Nurse consultants, Sonographers, Mammographers, Clinical Nurse Specialists and dedicated clinic staff. We provide a high standard of care which encompasses benign breast disease and cancer diagnoses. The 'one-stop' approach means that patients are offered a full diagnostic assessment during one appointment in the unit. The service is Monday to Fridays with no weekend or Bank holiday commitments. The post does require flexible working to accommodate clinic start and finish times.

Essential

  • GCSE Maths & English grade C or above / Grade 4 - 9 OR Functional/Key skills level 2 numeracy and Functional/Key Skills level 2 literacy
  • BNCS or NVQ / Internal Level 2 training programme
  • Must be willing to undertake Trust internal Level 3 training programme course

Desirable

  • Level 3 QCF diploma (Qualification Credit Framework) in healthcare / NVQ level 3

Knowledge & Experience

Essential

  • Previous experience of working in an acute health care or related setting
  • Understanding of health and safety issues within healthcare
  • Understanding of concept and application of confidentiality
  • Understanding of the role of a band 3 senior HCA
