It's a very diverse role, crammed full of different activities from ordering blood and booking in samples to stock control and maintaining equipment with everything in between. We really are looking for someone fabulous to join our Pathology Laboratory team and be at the forefront of healthcare in our hospital - we are looking for you!

We know the job title may sound complicated - but you do not need to have previous experience to do this role. We have an outstanding training programme & will ensure that you are confident & competent to perform all of the required duties as we want you to join us and absolutely thrive here.

Main duties of the job

Have you always been interested in what goes on in a hospital laboratory? Do you want to learn something new each day and get your steps in? Then we have the role for you. Our busy Haematology Department is looking for a new member to join our friendly team at Royal Preston Hospital.

Your ability to multi-task and focus on detail, as well as working as part of a diverse team, will be skills that will enable you to thrive as one of our Medical Laboratory Assistants.

You'll have effective communication skills which will be key in liaising with a wide variety of individuals both inside the department and outside, using a variety of different systems for example speaking to a Paediatrician who is asking for blood for a baby or a GP about a blood test.

  • Perform tests under supervision of senior staff
  • Ordering and maintaining stocks of blood products;
  • Handling enquiries face to face, via email and on the phone
  • Ensuring that urgent work is fast tracked appropriately through the department
  • Controlling and maintaining a variety of equipment
