Job summary

Are you an experienced staff nurse who is looking for an exciting challenge and you are ready for the step up to a ward sister role? Are you a dynamic forward thinking individual? If so, we have the job for you!

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a seconded ward sister post on Longton day case unit. You will lead, manage and coordinate a team of staff, working closely with the urology team. Full training will be provided and procedures include Precision point biopsy's, flexible cystoscopies, Lithotripsies, Rapid access clinic, Trans Urethral Laser Ablation Clinic and admissions for day case and In-patient Urology surgery. You will be based on Longton day case unit and link in daily and support Sellers ward in patient surgery as required. This is a full time 12 month secondment.

We are looking for an enthusiastic, highly motivated nurse who is passionate about delivering high standards of nursing care to ensure a positive patient experience. You will need to have excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills. Be prepared to work in a busy and sometimes challenging environment which will be in turn both rewarding and exciting . Have a good knowledge of IT systems.

Main duties of the job

To support theClinical manager and Matron in ensuring the provision of excellent care with compassion for the patients and relatives who attend the unit.

Provide strong leadership and direction to the team, monitoring and maintaining standards of care and professional practice to support day to day efficient running of the unit.

Act as a strong role model and provide development, clinical supervision and advice for other staff and students to support them in reaching their full potential.

Actively engage in research and development opportunities for the service.

Be responsible for ensuring the planning, delivery and evaluation of care to meet the personalisedhealth and wellbeing care needs of patients, in line with the Trust's values & Nursing & MidwiferyProfessional Framework.

To ensure the productive operation of the unit through the maintenance of a safe, clean and organised environment.

You will have knowledge regarding governance and its importance in promoting and maintaining a safe and quality driven environment for patients, visitors and staff.

Training needs are fully supported on the unit and you will always be encouraged to develop.

Admission of surgical patients, including completing relevant documentation and risk assessments.

Pre and Post op Care, including monitoring of vital signs, blood glucose monitoring, vena puncture, ECG, catheterisation, administration of medication and IV infusions, wound and drain care, pain management.

The role includes admission and discharging of patients, pre and post op care, working and supporting Senior and junior colleagues including student nurses.

Recognising signs and symptoms of post op complications , deteriorating patients and appropriate escalation in a timely manner.

Proactively leading and managing a team day to day coordinating discharges.

Involvement with Auditing, Recruitment, Reviewing Datix's, sickness and attendance policy.

Working closely with various members multidisciplinary teams to maintain a safe discharge including post op advice, referrals and appointments.

Working closely with Longton day case urology department.
