Job summary
You are invited to explore a JCF post in Elderly Medicine working alongside the friendly and supportive Elderly Medicine Team at Royal Preston Hospital.
This post will provide you with excellent training in Geriatric Medicine, including comprehensive geriatric assessment, frailty and communication skills. There will be opportunities to develop your presentation and teaching skills with constructive feedback. You will be exposed to clinical governance activity and continuous quality improvement methodology as we seek to improve the care of our patients and staff working experience. We are keen that you are afforded all the educational opportunities of specialist trainees and this post will strengthen any application for future speciality training posts.
Main duties of the job
You will:
- Be involved directly with the day to day functioning of the Acute Frailty Assessment Unit, and support with the provision of frailty in reach into the Emergency Department.
- Participate in multidisciplinary team working (including physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech and language therapy, mental health liaison and palliative care) to promote patient independence and wellbeing, and proactive discharge planning.
- Participate in consultant-led ward rounds and perform ward rounds with supervision.
- Undertake the administrative duties involved with the care of your patients.
- Perform procedures (venepuncture, cannulation, arterial blood gas sampling, NG tube placement, catheters, mental state examination)
- Develop communication skills (including obtaining collateral histories, conducting family meetings and addressing advance care planning needs)
- Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
- Maintain continuing education and professional development.
- Actively participate in the audit process and the quality improvement activity in the department.
