Job summary

Do you want to make a difference to patients following surgery using both your physical and psychosocial skills? Do you want to be part of a small team with a big ambition? Work in a team that covers several regional centres? Take a role in developing a service? Then the Surgery Therapy team at Royal Preston Hospital needs you!

We are looking for Occupational Therapists to join our established therapy team, on our new surgery rotation where you will rotate through the specialities of general surgery (including colorectal and head and neck) and vascular surgery. This band 6 role will be both challenging and rewarding, providing specialist occupational therapy to patients at all stages of their journey. You will work closely alongside other health professionals to ensure a holistic approach, focussing on what is important to patients and maximising their quality of life for discharge. How rewarding does that sound? The role involves some supervisory responsibilities, where you will develop junior staff and support service improvements in conjunction with the team's clinical leads.

We guarantee no two days will be the same, there will be lots of variety, so excellent problem- solving skills are a must!! If you have the specialist clinical skills within the acute environment, alongside the passion to improve the lives of patients, then this is the job for you!

Main duties of the job

As a specialist occupational therapist, you will undertake expert assessments, interventions, goal setting and discharge planning for patients within the rotations of general surgery and vascular surgery, with different service development opportunities available on each rotation. You should have the clinical experience of working in an acute hospital setting, and experience of working with patients following surgery would be advantageous.

Working closely with the wider multidisciplinary team, you will learn lots of new skills and experiences as you meet colleagues from all different backgrounds. Having this MDT approach will help guide your assessments and interventions to ensure you meet your patients' goals. You will need to possess advanced communication skills in order to provide a patient-centred service and liaise with outside agencies.

Active involvement in continuing professional development is a key requirement, along side a commitment to promote clinical governance and evidence best practice for this speciality.

Like all NHS trusts we recognise the need for enhanced provision and Core Therapies are looking to move towards 7 day working. As such you'll be expected to support this model of care when it is implemented. Right now though our weekend service is voluntary.

About us

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You'll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you'd never have done. You'll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You'll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
